2011 Sleepers

Now 30+ games into the season for NBA teams, some evaluation can take place.  The league's best and worst teams are obvious but some records can be deceiving and some teams are obviously using this season for improvement.  Here is a look at the top five sleeper teams that could make noise next season and possibly even this season.

No More Patrone?

Sad day for Chinese basketball fans today.  Ricky 'Patrone' Davis and Mike James were both cut by their respective teams.  Davis is being replaced by former NBA 1st Round pick, Antoine Wright.

James' case is much funnier however, he was averaging 28.7 points in the first eight games but team officials felt he wasn't trying to involve teammates offensively and did not practice hard.  He will be replaced by another former first round pick, Marcus Williams. We can only hope someone in the NBA will sign Davis to a contract soon, or maybe he can team up with Greg Ostertag in the D-League.

Top 5 under-appreciated NBA Stars

In the Christmas spirit I thought back to the pinnacle of NBA talent that the world has ever seen yet were not sufficiently given their due. These players are the definition of hustle, bad looks, great hair, and yet, around awesomeness.

1. Rick Fox

Mississippi State Teammates Renardo Sidney and Elgin Bailey Fight In Stands

I WONDER WHAT THE ASIAN GUY THERE WAS THINKING?

I'm Dreaming of a Grey Christmas

This shoe needs no introduction, the Air Jordan Retro XI 'Cool Grey' was one of the most anticipated sneakers ever released.  Notorious for the riots it caused during its' original release in 2001, incidents were noted at several stores, most happening in Texas.  Patrons began lining up during the evening of December 22 for the release on the 23rd and pushing and shoving was reported.  Police even had to resort to macing some people at one spot who tried to rush the door, breaking a door in the process.

Contraction is Good?

Ok, so everyone who knows me knows how personal I took LeBron's 'Decision' this summer.  It has nothing to do with him leaving Cleveland, he's two years older than me and I'm putting all my effort into moving out of Ohio, it is about having some CLASS.  And right now this, I'm sorry I try not to cuss, arrogant asshole says contraction would be good for the league because there is not enough talent to go around.  Seriously?

Selfish? Murder? VICK! (Updated,I proofread it)

Mistake, is an action or judgment that is misguided or wrong. Redemption is the action of being saved from sin evil or error. Forbearance is patient, self-control; restraint and tolerance. Opportunity is a set of circumstances that make it possible to do something. Michael Vick: a man, a project, human, sympathetic, misplaced, opportunistic. All of these words truly define Mike Vick and his story.

Where's the Love?

This statement may shock you but, Kevin Love is the most complete player in the NBA.  I'll give you a minute to collect your thoughts.

O.H....NO

Ohio State and the NCAA have officially suspended Terrelle Pryor, Boom Herron, Davier Posey, Mike Adams, and Soloman Thomas for the first 5 games of the 2011 season for selling items in exchange for money and tattoos. Thank you ESPN. This entire debacle opens open a huge can of worms started by A.J. Green of Georgia not too long ago...should college athletes be able to sell their personal property for gains?

MLB 2010 and Beyond

I know what you're thinking, Mr. Law it is December and baseball is the last thing on my mind as I wrap and then unwrap Christmas presents. But hey, the first and most important wave of free agency has come and gone and one thing is for certain, things are changing.

A City With Pride, and a team with none!

For the rest of my life I will always remember Thursday December 2, 2010. Not because the once self proclaimed King of Ohio came to his former “THROWN”, and literally destroyed the Cleveland Cavaliers in every conceivable way, other than castrating Daniel Gilbert in the middle of the court and moving the team to Pittsburgh. It did not bother me that the Miami Heat won the game (lets remember that all of America counted them out, so what did they have to lose?). My problem is in the way the Cavaliers lost this game.
(Now I know this is 19 days later, but the fire started again when the Cavaliers arrived here in Houston. Now, I am going to keep this in chronological order so let me go back to December 2nd. )

Isiah's Curse

Stephon Marbury, aka 'Starbury' and Steve Francis aka 'Stevie Franchise' have had two of the strangest and saddest careers in NBA history.  What is even more perplexing is how closely related these two players are.  The look on Marbury's face sums up his time in New York, and is probaly the same look he had in his SUV when he was banging Knicks' interns in it.

A Look Back Ten Years

Ten years ago the Cavs were entering a season dealing with the loss of another superstar, that's right Shawn Kemp.  Ironically enough the Miami Heat were involved in a three-team trade that moved Shawn Kemp to Portland, Miami got Brian Grant and his brand new 6 year, $98 million dollar deal.  (Yes they actually paid him that much.)  The Cavs received Chris Gatling, Clarence Weatherspoon and a first round pick, turning out to be the sensational Brendan Haywood.

One Week Left

With one week to go until the release of both the 'Cool Grey' and 'Cough Drop' street wear company UNDRCRWN released Jay-Z/shoe inspired shirts to match with each pair.  Playing off of Jay-Z's lyrics in 'Run This Town' the shirt says "All Grey Everything", as opposed to "all black everything."  The other features three large cough drops and quotes on the back, "Cough up a lung, where I'm from" from his song "Where I'm From."  Here's a link with pictures pics of the shirt and a link to buy them from solecollector.

Why the NBA All-Star Game is Terrible

The first returns on the all-star voting has come back and the leading two centers in the Western Conference have played a combined seven games this year.  Seriously?  If fans are honestly this stupid and uneducated then we need to rethink the format to select all-stars.

The Future of the Cavaliers

With their rematch against the Heat tonight at what is sure to be a half-filled Miami arena, its time for the Cavs to look at the big picture.

Just Stupid.....

This guy has the largest sneaker collection I've ever seen, and although he definetly takes it to the extreme (laying them out in themes and every shoe is plastic wrapped) it is a very nice collection.  Nicekicks.com ran the story earlier today, here is a link to the videos:

While I can't agree on owning shoes that you never wear this is probaly one of the nicest collections ever.  One day my basement will rival this dude's.

Kobe's Advice to Wall

With John Wall battling foot problems and also ruining my fantasy team at the same time, Kobe Bryant had some advice for the young star.  "Buy Nike's." is what Bryant said to Washington Post reporter Michael Lee. Wall spurned Nike, which he wore at Kentucky, to sign with Reebok and has been featuring the Reebok Zig Slash.

Cavs too Cavalier?

With the Cavs losing convincingly again, extending the losing streak to eight games, it's time to evaluate things.

Bin 23 Retro 5

No release date as of yet but, these 5's look dope, finally another good looking pair from the Bin 23 collection.  2011 looks to be promising for JB with the OG 3's, some retro 7's and the retro 5 both dropping in multiple cw's.  Link through Sole Collector, pics from MarqueeSole.

Introducing Sloppy Seconds

I want the first post to be an explanation and an outline for things to come. This blog is intended for my entertainment only, if you disagree with me that's fine, I expect most people to. If you don't like it then well you don't have to read it. I plan to use this blog to satisfy my journalistic needs and to express my opinions on sports (especially the NBA), shoes and pretty much whatever the hell pops into my head.

It is called Sloppy Seconds for two reasons: first Sloppy was the nickname I was given while a Sophomore in high school by my junior varsity basketball coach and second since all of my news comes from other sources (ESPN, Twitter, Sole Collector, etc.) it therefore makes all of my posts sloppy seconds.

I hope you like the blog but if you don't, that's ok, you can take your opinion to South Beach and shove it up your ass.
