Why the NBA All-Star Game is Terrible

The first returns on the all-star voting has come back and the leading two centers in the Western Conference have played a combined seven games this year.  Seriously?  If fans are honestly this stupid and uneducated then we need to rethink the format to select all-stars.

If all-star selections are one of the criteria used in evaluating a players career then why do undeserving guys make it every year?  The article from nba.com, http://www.nba.com/2010/news/12/16/allstar-ballot-results/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2, would have the following starters for February's All-Star game:

East
Rajon Rondo
Dwyane Wade
LeBron James
Kevin Garnett
Dwight Howard

West
Chris Paul
Kobe Bryant
Kevin Durant
Pau Gasol
Yao Ming (seriously)

Looking at the starters, theres two obvious problems, first in the East how can you justify Garnett over Amar'e Stoudemire, who has been the catalyst behind the Knicks season and in the West, Yao Ming seriously?  In addition, Kevin Love is somehow 15,000 votes behind Caron Butler, even though he leads the NBA in rebounding.  Derek Fisher is the 10th best guard in the West?  This is why I havn't watched an all-star game in four years and why its such a joke.

  1. Yea I. Don't have a problem as much with the fans having a vote because its a smart way for the nba to involve them however I do agree that it should be changed to more coach selected players and less fan voted because hahaha at yao ming unbelieveable!
